ASCS Southwest Sets 2011 Slate

Lonnie Wheatley, TULSA, Okla. (January 28, 2011) – The American Sprint Car Series Southwest Region is set for the fourth year of premier winged Sprint Car racing throughout Arizona and the surrounding area with today’s announcement of the 2011 schedule.
 
The 2011 slate of events for the winged ASCS Southwest Region currently consists of 20 nights of competition at Tucson’s USA Raceway, Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park and Las Cruces’ Southern New Mexico Speedway.
 
The ASCS Southwest Region will begin and end the season in tandem with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National series at USA Raceway, also joining in on November’s Lucas Oil National festivities in Las Cruces.
 
Following the February 18-19 season opening double, the Fifth Annual Copper on Dirt at USA Raceway, the ASCS Southwest forces take to the 3/8-mile USA Raceway on nine different occasions beginning on April 2 while also taking the winged style of racing to the Valley for four events at Peoria’s Canyon Speedway Park.
 
Canyon Speedway Park will also host a unique winged/wingless weekend on October 21-22 with the Canyon Southwest Championships featuring the winged Southwest Region on October 21 and then the wingless Canyon Region on October 22.
 
The ASCS Southwest Region will once again culminate with USA Raceway’s Western World Championships on November 17-19.
 
Rick Ziehl of Las Cruces, NM, has claimed the ASCS Southwest crown over each of the past three seasons, claiming the top spot by the narrow margins of 22, 7 and 26 points from 2008 to 2010, respectively.

The 2011 season marks the 20th year of sanctioning Sprint Car racing for the American Sprint Car Series, which brings the best of Sprint Car racing to approximately 100 different tracks throughout 30 states and Canada.  Anchored by the Lucas Oil Sprint Car Series presented by K&N Filters, ASCS also consists of ten different Regions throughout the nation.
