Lonnie Wheatley, PEORIA, Ariz. (May 21, 2011) – Three-time and reigning Sunoco Fuel ASCS Southwest Region champion Rick Ziehl picked off his first series win of the year by prevailing in Saturday night’s main event at Canyon Speedway Park.

Ziehl outlasted a fierce bid from John Carney II to take his sixth career ASCS Southwest triumph aboard the Wesmar-powered Lucas Oil No. 20z Maxim as the winged Southwest Region made its first stop of the year atop Peoria clay.

While Ziehl started from the pole, Carney challenged from the sixth position and poised to take the lead until tangling with an infield tire while in battle.  Ziehl went on to secure the win in front of Kyle McCutcheon and Joshua Williams while Carney rebounded to salvage fourth.

Dalten Gabbard rounded out the top five, with J.T. Imperial, Josh Pelkey, Lance Norick, Steve Stone and Chuck Buckman completing the top ten.

Calvin Landis and Kaylene Verville claimed heat race wins.
